Tell Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist to can the attacks and start getting serious about cleaning up their acts.

take action today

We’ve got the tuna industry’s attention.

Less than 24 hours after we released our video exposing the tuna industry’s dirty little secret, we received letters from all three companies highlighted in the video -- Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist -- demanding that we take down the video and stop our campaign immediately.

We responded by letting them know that we’ll be doing no such thing. And now that we have their attention we urgently need your help to increase the pressure and help protect our oceans from destructive fishing practices.

Every year, the canned tuna industry is responsible for massive amounts of ocean destruction. The methods they use to fish for tuna don’t just kill tuna. They also kill thousands of sharks, rays, sea turtles and sea birds. We believe the American public has a right to know how their tuna is caught, and the destruction caused by so many of their favorite tuna products

Solutions already exist. A simpler and more sustainable approach would be to stop using destructive fishing methods like fish aggregating devices (FADs) and longlines and switch to more sustainable fishing like FAD-free purse seines or pole-and-line gear.

But instead of engaging in a conversation about how they can fish more sustainably, Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist have opted to try to cover up the problem by making legal threats against Greenpeace.

We’ve already sent them our response and now that we have their attention we urgently need your help. Greenpeace is people powered and the CEO’s of Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist need to hear from you right away. Tell them to can the attacks and start getting serious about cleaning up their acts.

And it doesn’t stop with the legal threats. A major front group funded in part by the tuna industry, called the National Fisheries Institute, has launched a PR campaign against Greenpeace. It’s all part of a strategy to take the spotlight off of their destructive fishing practices and put it elsewhere.

We’re not going to let them do that and you can help.

Send a message to Bumble Bee, Chicken of the Sea and Starkist today and let them know that no amount of legal threats or PR spin can hide the truth about ocean destruction.

For the oceans,

Casson Trenor

Greenpeace Senior Markets Campaigner
